You might be thinking…red, white, and blue cupcakes, right? How can I get more creative than that? But as it turns out, there are lots of ways to have fun with pretty patriotic treats! These Patriotic Cupcakes are decorated three different ways for even more fun!

For these 4th of July Cupcakes, we started with a basic vanilla cupcake recipe and then decorated them for a festive touch.
If you are looking for a different cupcake, you can follow our original post on 4th of July cupcakes that we shared a couple years back. In that post, you’ll bake up cupcakes with 1/3rd red, 1/3rd white, and 1/3rd blue batter! It’s easy and results in some fabulous-looking little sweets.
Whether you start with a vanilla cupcake recipe or bake the red, white and blue cupcakes, let’s be honest, the fun comes when it’s time to decorate. So let’s get started…

For each of the cupcakes, we used our Buttercream Frosting recipe, then swirled it on the cupcakes using a decorator bag fitted with a 1M or large star tip.
We baked the cupcakes in white liners, and then added our blue and red rugby-striped versions that will give your cupcakes a patriotic flair!
The chocolate coated strawberries are super easy, as well.
Patriotic Chocolate Coated Strawberries for Cupcakes
You will need fresh strawberries, we suggest using medium to small size strawberries so they fit on top of the cupcake easily.
White Almond Bark or white melting chocolate
And of course, sprinkles. We used Fire Cracker Mix and Patriotic Stars and Patriotic Jimmies.
Begin by melting a couple squares of the almond bark in a microwave safe bowl for 1 minute, stir and continue heating for 20-30 seconds until the chocolate is almost melted. Then stir until the chocolate is completely melted.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and add your sprinkles to a small bowl.
Then dip the strawberry in the melted chocolate, let the excess chocolate drip off a bit, then immediately add the sprinkles.
Set on the prepared baking sheet for 5-10 minutes until the chocolate has hardened.

Next up are these fun fireworks made from candy melts for cupcake toppers.

Chocolate Fireworks for Cupcakes
You will need red and blue candy melts, about 1/2 a bag of each, depending on the number of cupcakes you are decorating.
A decorator bag fitted with a round tip. Any size will work, but you want it large enough that the chocolate will flow easily and create a nice line.
Line a baking with parchment paper and add sprinkles to a bowl.
After melting the candy melts in the microwave (follow the directions above) then transfer the melted chocolate into the decorator bag.
Pipe zigzags onto the parchment paper and let it set for 10-15 minutes or until they have hardened.
To decorate each cupcake, pipe on the frosting, then add our Patriotic Nonpareils.

And now let’s decorate these 4th of July Cupcakes with mini flags.
After piping on the frosting, and adding the Patriotic Sprinkles of your choice, simply add a mini flag.
It doesn’t get any easier than that Sprinkle Fans!
