Want a gender-neutral, age-neutral cake for your next birthday event? This Mickey cake is simple to bake, simpler to decorate, and is a perfectly cute dessert for pretty much everyone!

Kids like Mickey. Parents like Mickey. Boys like Mickey, girls like Mickey. Older people like Mickey. Everyone knows and loves Mickey Mouse, which makes Mickey stuff an A+, 10/10, 5-star theme for pretty much every birthday.
And since you all loved our Mickey Mouse Cupcakes, we bet you will love this Mickey Cake too!
(Okay, maybe your teenager won’t like it. Unless they’re a cool Disneyland-type teenager. Then they’ll loooove it.)
Most stores have premade Mickey-shaped cakes available already, but why buy one when you can make one from scratch easily? Like, including the buttercream frosting? That way, you’ll know what’s going into the cake precisely…and you can show your favorite person that you love them. It’s a win-win.

This Mickey Mouse birthday cake doesn’t take too long to throw together or decorate, and you don’t need to be specially skilled to whip it up, either. We hope you have fun making it!
How To Make A Mickey Cake
No special skills are needed to bake up a cute and totally fun Mickey cake!
You will need…
- Your favorite vanilla cake recipe: Use a store-bought mix…or follow our own tried-and-true from-scratch easy vanilla cake recipe. We highly recommend it!
- Buttercream frosting: This is another ingredient that you can grab from the store or follow our simple buttercream recipe that results in creamy smooth frosting every time!
- Piping bag and piping tips: You’ll use these to decorate your cake, of course. In particular, we used the Wilton 1M piping tip for the cake you see in the photos. If you want to copy ours, get that tip!
- Sprinkles: We used our Mouse House and Mickey Mouse mixes. Technically, you can use whatever sprinkles you want…but ours are perfectly matched to any Mickey-themed cake!
- Cupcake toppers: Good news! We have food-safe and oh-so-cute Mickey and Minnie toppers right here on Sweets and Treats. No need to go searching at a party store!

Step 1: Make your vanilla cake base.
As we said above, we recommend our vanilla cake recipe, which gives you wonderful from-scratch cake. (It’s easy, too!) We used 3 6-inch pans to make a 3-layer cake, but you can tweak the above recipe to suit any sized cake you need.
Step 2: Stack and layer the cakes.
Make your buttercream frosting if you haven’t already. Stack your layers, adding frosting between them if necessary to keep them steady. Then, frost the outside of the cake with a smooth white layer of buttercream.
Step 3: Add your finishing touches!
Now’s the time for the best part: decorating the cake! Using your hand or a spatula, add your Mouse House and Mickey Mouse sprinkle mixes to the bottom of the cake, just as we did in the photo. Fill the piping bag with more buttercream, fit the 1M tip onto the bag, and swirl rosettes at the top of the cake. Finally, stick the Mickey and Minnie toppers into the top of the cake, and add a scattering of sprinkles,
…and that’s it! Enjoy this Mickey Mouse cake!
