Size, shape, material…if you’ve ever wondered how to choose hot chocolate bomb molds, we’re here to talk more about them! It’s never been easier to make an adorable hot cocoa bomb than now, and we want to tell you about the molds available to you.

If you love hot chocolate bombs like we do, but maybe you missed our previous posts…
Hot cocoa bombs are similar to bath bombs in concept. You make little orbs out of chocolate, fill them with hot cocoa, and drop them into hot milk for a super-sweet, totally-adorable, belly-warming treat!
To put together a hot chocolate bomb, however, you need to consider the right hot chocolate bomb mold. You can’t just melt chocolate, try to shape it with your hands, and hope for the best here…you need that mold! A mold will help you create a spherical chocolate bomb shape that holds all sorts of precious goodies inside.
And what goes into a hot chocolate bomb mold? Well…

Hot Cocoa Bomb Molds: What to Look For
Believe it or not, there’s a bit of thought you’ll need to put into choosing your bomb molds. Since cocoa bombs are pretty simple to make, this is about the most effort you’ll need during any recipe, though! Don’t worry.
You’ll have to consider a few factors: should you use silicone molds for your hot chocolate bombs, what size mold for your hot chocolate bombs, etc.
Now wait up—don’t feel too overwhelmed! We’ve put together a small list of cocoa bomb mold necessities. When choosing a hot chocolate bomb mold, you’ll want to think about…

Safety:
Before we even get into choosing your mold’s material, remember to always look for molds that are safe to use with food! You’ll look for packaging that labels it as food-grade. Never assume that the molds you’re buying are just dandy to throw chocolate into…you might have some nasty chemicals leech into your cocoa bombs. Ick!
Material:
We prefer to use silicone molds for hot chocolate bombs—the bombs are always easy to remove from the mold no matter the shape! You don’t even have to spray them down with baking spray. It’s hard to go wrong with silicone!
Size:
What size mold is best for your hot chocolate bombs? It depends on what kind of mug you’ll use with them! Ensure your mold makes cocoa bombs small enough to fit into your cups, but not so small that you’ll need multiple bombs just to get a flavorful treat. Generally speaking, molds that are under 2.5” to 3” in diameter should work. Be sure to measure the opening of your cup so you’ll know for certain.
Shape:
The classic sphere shape is probably the most well-known when it comes to hot chocolate bombs. It makes a cute little orb of goodies you can drop inside a mug of hot milk! However, much like with shower bombs or bath bombs, there’s lots of fun shapes you can use to experiment, like Christmas trees, hearts, and more.
In fact, we’ve listed a few of our favorite hot chocolate bomb molds in the next section…

Our favorite hot chocolate bomb molds!
We stock some of our fave molds right here on Sweets and Treats. They’re all food grade, all made of silicone, and all perfectly adorable (extremely important)! For instance, we love our…
Christmas Tree Bomb Molds:
We originally envisioned this Christmas Tree Mold for cakes and cakesicles, but as it turns out, they work well for hot chocolate bombs, too! (But just FYI: it is microwave, freezer, and oven-safe…you know, if you want to use the mold for aaaaaalll the baking.) As with the rest of our silicone molds, you’ll want to coat the inside with a layer of chocolate, then fill it up with Christmas-themed sweet goodies, etcetera. As the holidays approach, there’s really no better way to celebrate than with a special hot chocolate treat, you know?!
Snowflake Bomb Molds:
If you don’t celebrate Christmas…or just want something a little more winter-themed…we have you covered with our Snowflake Mold. This is another super-cute mold we intended for baked goods, but that just so happens to work well with hot chocolate bombs! Think about filling each one with matching sprinkles, like our Snowflake Candy Sprinkle set.
Spherical Cocoa Bomb Mold:
You know it, you love it…it’s the classic Hot Chocolate Bomb Mold in a spherical/orb-like shape! If you’re a beginner, a spherical mold is the best place to start, since coating each cavity is a little easier than with a highly-detailed mold like the snowflake mold above. This mold will make 3 bombs, which is more than enough to put into a goodie bag for your favorite people at any time of the year.
Geometric Heart Mold:
Like the snowflake and Christmas tree molds above, you could use our Geometric Heart Mold for baked goods, but why stop there?! Grab it and bring it out at Valentine’s Day for perfect hot cocoa bombs, as well! Your loved ones (or loved one) is sure to appreciate all the work you put into it. You could even pair it with festive Pixel Heart Sprinkles if you’re in an extra lovey-dovey mood.
Ready to make hot chocolate bombs!?
Because we sure are! Hot chocolate bombs are great as gifts and goody bag treats for all ages at every time of the year. They’re adorable, fun, and—best of all!—versatile. If you’ve used any of our hot cocoa bomb molds, let us know in the comments down below!
