They are wholesome, delicious, and often warm – everything you need to get through this colorful, chilly season. And, of course, they are usually set on a Thanksgiving table too.
Don’t be fooled; pies, tarts, and cobbler can, of course, be savory too. That’s one way to offer some variety this season, make your main dish a cobber – why not? We haven’t gone overboard with the savory ideas, but they’re here if you want to wow your guests.
And although these kinds of fall baking recipes are perhaps needless decorations, there’s no reason you can’t add some of our colorful and fun sprinkles to your pies. It’s always an easy way to get the kids involved without them really getting involved if you know what we mean. Let them have the fun of decorating your delicious pies with the colors of the season. Of course, we have lots of other fall baked treats supplies ready for you to order.
Now, let’s take a look at some of these exciting fun treat ideas this fall.
Cinnamon Roll Apple Pie
This is the pie for you if you’re looking for something a little different and over-the-top even. It’s topped with a layer of iced cinnamon rolls. Now, doesn’t that sound decadent? But don’t worry, decadent doesn’t have to mean complicated, especially if you use refrigerated pie crusts and cinnamon roll dough. Cook the apples, sugar, and cinnamon in a nonstick pan and stir until the apples are soft. Once this is done, create a cornstarch and water mixture to mix into the apple liquid; once thick, pour it over the apples, stir and then pour onto the cooled pie crust. Roll out your cinnamon rolls and arrange them on top of the apple mixture and bake. Once the pie is cooled, add reserved icing over the top.
For something fresh and super tasty, look no further. You’ve got a buttery vanilla crust, juicy fruit filling, and ginger-almond crumble on top. What more could you want? Make your crust yourself this time, and make sure to add a vanilla bean to the mixture. The crumble needs brown sugar, butter, and salt with flour, chopped almonds, and crystallized ginger. Mix the cranberries, sugar, and orange juice in a pan for your fruit filling and cook until cranberries pop. Fold in orange zest, pears, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. And then it’s just the assembling left to do.
Skillet Chicken Pot Pie
Okay, here’s your first savory pie. And it’s a goodie. Use refrigerated pie crusts if you haven’t got the time or energy to make from scratch. For the filling, melt some butter, add flour, and whisk, and then add chicken broth and milk and whisk until thick. Next, saute onions, mushrooms, chicken, and your favorite veg, and then add the filling. Spoon the mixture over the pie crust and top with more pie crust. Brush with egg white, cut some slits in the top, and bake. Oh, and you’re welcome.
Here’s a rich one for those with a serious sweet tooth. Use refrigerated tart pastry. For the caramel filling, stir brown sugar, flour, and salt in a bowl. Then whisk milk, dark corn syrup, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg yolk, and then pour over the sugar mixture. Whisk the egg white until soft peaks form and add to the mixture. Spoon this filling onto the tart crust and bake. Serve with brandy or vanilla whipped cream if you’d like.
Blackberry, Browned Butter, and Almond Tart
Are you looking for an elegant five-star dish or fun treat ideas? This is it. And it doesn’t even have a crust. But you will be overwhelmed by the dense and buttery cake flavor and texture. Almond flour is the secret ingredient, and if you can’t find fresh blackberries, rather choose another fresh berry; they will taste just as good. Make a trusted almond cake batter and add to your tart pan – make sure this has browned butter and vanilla bean in the recipe. Once ready, spread it in your pan and add the berries, and bake.
Squash, Kale, Caramelized Onion, and Feta Tart
You can make these as small, individual tarts or in a big tart pan. It’s up to you. Prepare your refrigerated pastry in the pans or pan. Next, soften the onions by frying them until golden brown and caramelized. Add chopped squash and a cup of water, cook until water has evaporated. Whisk eggs, cream, dill, and feta and arrange on the pastry with the squash mixture and some steamed kale. Pour the cream mixture over and sprinkle with pine nuts, and bake. This is a savory treat that will impress.
Pecan Pie Cobbler
This cobbler’s batter is a simple mix of equal parts flour, sugar, and milk. Pour it in your pan, and then instead of adding fruit in the middle, you’re going to add a delicious pecan filling mixture. The pecan filling should include brown sugar, vanilla, some melted butter, and a little bourbon. As you can imagine, when this starts to bake, the sugary filling will create a sticky, sweet cobbler with a bit of pecan crunch. For a glossy finish, brush the top with maple syrup.
This is sure to be a winner, especially with the kids. I mean, who doesn’t like chocolate cake with a squishy fudge center? First, pour the batter into a buttered baking dish, then a layer of dry ingredients is scattered on top, followed by boiling water. The trick is not to stir; this helps make pockets of pudding and cake-like crust. As this is a more unconventional method for making a cobbler, click here for the recipe.
Chicken and biscuit cobbler
For a warm, tasty, comforting dinner, try this one. And, you can easily pick up a rotisserie chicken from the store and shred it for this recipe. Saute carrots, onion, mushrooms, wine, garlic, and flour, and some broth. Then add your chicken and seasoning. For the biscuit dough, whisk self-raising flour, sugar, buttermilk, and melted butter until a dough forms. Add your chicken into a baking dish, drop biscuit dough onto the chicken mixture, and bake. Another unexpected savory dish that will delight your guests.
