4th of July Ice Cream Cake
This is our winning suggestion for tasty patriotic desserts to serve on the 4th of July. We have many fantastic and fun ideas to make your celebrations delicious, but if you do have the time, we recommend this one for sure. You’ll be layering chocolate cake, ice cream, chocolate ganache, and cream frosting together. It sounds like a lot, but it will be worth it.
- First, make your favorite chocolate cake recipe to make a thin base for the whole cake and allow it to cool.
- Next, you’ll make easy vanilla no-churn cream cheese ice cream, and once done, add in sprinkles and crumbled Oreos.
- When this is done, it’s time to make a ganache. Pour hot cream over choc chips and let them stand for a few minutes. Then whisk the choc mixture until melted and smooth.
- First, assemble your creations, layer your cake pan with the choc cake, and then half of the ganache mixture.
- Next, add a third of the ice cream and top with some swirled ganache, the second third of the ice cream plus ganache, and the last layer of ice cream.
- Then freeze your cake until firm. While waiting, make the cream frosting and divide it between three colors, red, white, and blue, and then frost the cake once completely frozen.

As promised, here are some other ways to get creative with your 4th of July treats:
Bake your favorite sponge cake into a big rectangle pan to resemble a flag. Frost your flag with a whipped cream frosting and create your stars and stripes with fresh berries. The blueberries will be your stars, and use strawberries and raspberries and place them in rows to form the stripes. Or use sprinkles and cut-out shapes of stars and stripes to decorate.
Make a white cake mix, divide it in two and add blue food coloring to the one half. Make a red velvet cake mix and use only half of the batter. If you have squeeze bottles, divide the three colored batters into these three bottles. Now squeeze the batter into your cake pan, first about ¼ of red, then white, then blue. Continue alternating, so it looks like a bull’s-eye pattern. Tap the pan and bake. Make your best frosting recipe and top with red, white, blue sprinkles.
Inside out Red Velvet Cookies
Make your favorite cookie dough recipe and add red food coloring to half the batch and blue food coloring to the other half. Make your cream cheese frosting. Roll out a large cookie size, add a smaller dollop of the cream cheese in the center, and then cover the cream cheese with the sides of the cookie and roll it into a ball. Bake and enjoy.
Get creative with the country’s favorite outdoor dessert, s’mores. For chocolate s’mores, layer wafer cookies, toasted marshmallows, and milk choc squares. For peanut butter s’mores, layer Graham crackers, dark choc squares, toasted marshmallows, sliced bananas, and peanut butter. For strawberry s’mores, layer choc-chip cookies, toasted marshmallows, and sliced strawberries.
Make your favorite berry pie in a rectangle dish to resemble the flag. Put your blueberries in a square at the top left to resemble the star section and strawberries in the area covering the rest of the pie/flag. Decorate the top of your pie with pastry rolled out and cut into stars and stripes.
Mini-Berry Star Pies
Use your favorite berry pie recipe to make mini pies with blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries. Top the individual pies with rolled-out pastry cut into star shapes of different sizes. Top the stars on the pies and bake till golden.
Leaving some red up top, dip your strawberries in marshmallow fluff, and then dip the bottom half of the marshmallow fluff in blue sprinkles. Red, white, and blue, done! If you want to add a grown-up twist, soak your strawberries in vodka beforehand.
An easy addition to the table, first heat the berries with some orange juice and honey in a pot for a few minutes to make a jam mix. Next, spread frozen yogurt on a baking tray lined with parchment paper to make the bark. Then dollop the berry mix and some bigger chunks of berries on top. Freeze until solid and break into pieces.
